Security Groups

In order to let people have ‘edit’ access to Drupal web content, they need to be added to the security groups via gateway.sfsu.edu

There are 4 security groups that are created by default. They are as below:

  • FullAdmin - complete access to the site.

  • Admin - as good as full-admin but with some restrictions like accessing the Drupal

    Permissions page

  • Publisher - add, edit, publish content but cannot change site configurations such as

site name, sidebar blocks, banner image

  • Editor - has the least access and can only add content but cannot publish

The below is a walk through of how to make someone a fulladmin for the Drupal site.

Step 1:

Go to https://gateway.sfsu.edu/securitygroups and login with your SFSU credentials.

You can also reach there by just going to https://gateway.sfsu.edu/ and logging in and clicking on the ‘IT Services’ link from the left hand navigation menu.

Step 2:

Once there, click on the ‘Edit’ button corresponding to the role that you want to add someone to. In this case, the role is a fulladmin.

Step 3:

On the next page, there will be two options.

  • One is to add some one as a Member of this ‘fulladmin’ group.
  • Another is to make some one a Manager of the ‘fulladmin’ group.
Member Manager

Will have ‘edit’ access to the Drupal site based on the group to which they are added

Will have access to Security Groups i.e., that person can add/remove members to that particular group in gateway.sfsu.edu like you are doing now

If you want to give some one ‘Edit’ access to Drupal site, you need to add that person as Member

If you want some one to manage the Security Groups but not have access to edit the Drupal site, add that person as manager

Drupal specific

SF State Gateway specific

In this case, we are making the person manager as well as member.

Scroll down to find the ‘Managers’ section and type in the email id of the person and click on ‘Add Manager’ button.

Note: Adding some one as manager does not make that person a member and vice versa.

Note: Same person can be added as manager as well as member if you want that person to be able to both edit Drupal site and manage the security group in SF State gateway.
